Colossians 2 : 6-7 (NIV)
So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live your lives in him, rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness.

Starting your relationship with God

A Relationship That Transforms And Saves Relationships are central to human life. From early on, we long for deep connections—with friends, family, and ultimately, with God. Yet relationships, while fulfilling, come with challenges. They require compromise, vulnerability, and the willingness to consider others’ needs. This is especially true in our relationship with God. Often, we try to earn God’s favor through good behavior, religious rituals, or moral living. We follow rules not from love, but from a desire to control our own lives while still holding onto a connection with God. This performance-based approach misses the heart of the relationship that God desires. The problem runs deeper: it’s our sin nature. As Paul writes in Romans 3:23, all have sinned. But we rarely grasp sin’s true weight. We normalize it or try to cancel it out with good deeds. Religious practices like sacrifices in ancient Israel only hinted at a deeper truth—sin brings death, and we can’t fix it on our own (James 1:15). That’s why God sent Jesus. At our weakest, Christ died for us (Romans 5:6–8). He didn’t offer more rules, but a restored relationship through grace. Jesus invites the weary and burdened to find rest in Him (Matthew 11:28). When we surrender our self-reliance and trust in Christ, we’re forgiven and begin a new relationship with our Heavenly Father—not based on merit, but on love. There are no magical formulas, secret passwords, or elaborate ceremonies for starting this new relationship with God, it doesn’t require rituals or perfect words. A simple, sincere prayer—admitting need, expressing faith in Jesus, and committing to walk with Him—is enough. God’s grace is greater than our failures, and He longs to walk with us in real, daily relationship. “God, I want a relationship with you. But I realize that my selfishness and sin has gotten in the way, because deep down, I just want to live life my own way. But God, I’m tired and I’ve come to the end of myself. And I now realize that what’s been missing from my life is you. And you are so amazing because you knew I didn’t need more rules, or more education, or a chance to be better. I needed a saviour. Thank you for sending your son, Jesus, I believe he lived, died, and rose from the grave to forgive my sins, conquer death, and give me new life and hope. I place my trust in him and thank you for not giving up on me. I’m excited about growing in this new relationship with you. I know it won’t always be easy, I know you’ll continue to change me, and I’m going to trust in you. God, thank you for your amazing grace!    Amen.”
